Malachi - 4 Months Old

ok, so i know i'm behind on Malachi's 4 month pictures and update. but we have been celebrating Jeff's 30th birthday and just generally enjoying the fall in our new Ohio home - it has been a gorgeous one!

our little guy turned 4 months on October 9th and it has definetly been a blessed 4 months!

here are some stats - (btw, we have a doctors appointment next friday so my height and weight stats are only estimates to what i think, we'll get the official report then)

height: i measured him 2 days ago and my estimate is about 26 inches

weight: i really don't know for sure, we don't have a scale, but i would guess around 15 or 16 pounds

clothes: 3 month, 3-6 month, 6 month (it depends on the clothes!)

diapers: we use cloth but in disposables he is a size 2

now onto the fun stuff -what he's doing nowadays:

- he is more and more active everyday. he squirms and wiggles when you carry him or hold him. i think once he gets moving there's not going to be any stoping him! watch out!

- he is pretty vocal and will just "talk" loudly out of no where sometimes. we have gotten comments at the church nursery that he is such a "talker" haha... (not that anyone would really be surprised by this considering who his parents are!)

- Jeff just discovered that he LOVES peek-a-boo. he will laugh and laugh when jeff throws a blanket over his head and then pulls it off. interestingly though, he will only react this way if you cover his head, not if you cover your head. but its fun to watch!

- he has discovered his hands BIG TIME and pretty much has them in his mouth whenever he is awake.

- drool is an ever-present friend. couple that with the hands in the mouth and i can pretty much bet on having wet spots all over my shirt! haha... comes with the territory i guess!

- we haven't started any real food yet, but i think it's coming soon! we're going to talk to the pediatrician about that at our visit.

- we have started cloth diapering (almost) full time. the only hold out is nighttime and really thats only because i want to make sure i have a handle on daytime before adding nighttime to the mix. but nighttime will be coming very soon i think!

- we transitioned him to his own bed in his own room at night and he has done really well with it. i figured since has gone through the night without eating for several weeks now that it was time. he's still sleeping through the night like a champ and naps pretty good during the day too. i am very thankful!

- we had to start giving him diluted juice daily to help him go to the bathroom more regularly :( which seemed to work for a little while but now doesn't seem to be making much of a difference. another reason why i want to talk to the doctor about possibly starting him on some pureed veggies. we'll see...

- he is still eating every 3-4 hours. here is the schedule we loosely follow everyday and seems to work best for us right now -

8am - wake, nurse, change diaper and get dressed, hang with mom while she gets coffee and breakfast

9am - 11am - nap

11am - nurse, change diaper, play, sit with mom, juice

noon-3-ish pm - nap

3pm - nurse, change diaper, juice, run errands

4pm - 6pm - sometimes a nap during this time, other days we are out running errands or jeff comes home and they play and he doesn't sleep, he seems to do ok even if he doesn't sleep here.

6pm - nurse, change diaper, juice

6:30pm - 8:30pm - play with daddy, take a short cat nap in there somewhere, this nap is also hit or miss

8:30pm - nurse, change diaper and clothes

9pm - bedtime

we are so blessed to have Malachi in our little family and we are so excited to see what the Lord will do through him - both to shape Jeff and I right now and eventually what He will do in Malachi's life!
